Multi-Gyn is a product line of BioClin. BioClin is an innovative company in the Netherlands which was founded in 1989 by Floris Koumans (1967, strategic management) and his mother, Annelize Goedbloed (1939, medical biologist).

The basis of the company is the bio-active concept. This is a novel approach to the treatment and prevention of health problems that relate to the microbial flora of the human body. Did you know that of all the living cells in and on your body, less than 10% has your DNA? So, what is the other 90% that your body is made of? The answer is: MICROBES. Your entire body depends on a great number and variety of bacteria. Most of these bacteria are useful and should be there. Bacteria that you need for your immune system, for your metabolism, for your protection and for a variety of functions of your body. But of course there are also bacteria that are harmful and may cause problems or even disease. Bacteria live in communities and when in balance the good bacteria keep the harmful bacteria under control. The living mixture of micro-organisms that lives in and on your body is also called the microbial flora (micro-flora) or the microbiota.
 
When your microbial flora is out of balance, harmful bacteria can take over and health problems may arise. There are many variations in such a situation: at first there is only a disbalance (dysbacteriosis) that often results in the overgrowth of a specific type of (unwanted) micro-organism. At this moment you already start to experience some discomforts and minor problems. When the situation becomes worse it may result in an infection. There is a great number of such health problems and each part of the body that has its own specific flora will have its own specific problems.

Bio-active products of BioClin correct and restore the balance of the microbial flora and in this way are highly effective in a wide range of problems related to bacterial overgrowth. After many years of research (ao in partnership with the Free University of Amsterdam, Medical Faculty, department of molecular cell biology) the bio-active substance for BioClin’s products, was discovered, isolated and patented. This substance is referred to as 2QR (pronounce: ‘to cure’) or 2QR-complex. It is a complex of polysaccharides that is derived from plants by molecular filtration and it forms the basis of all BioClin product formulations.

For harmful microbes to become a problem, they need to attach themselves to our own cells, form colonies and dominate the normal micro-flora. Almost all harmful microbes use the same kind of mechanism to bind themselves to our cells. 2QR has the unique ability to block this mechanism. In this way it neutralizes harmful bacteria without having any negative impact on our own cells or on useful microbes. 2QR-based products are highly effective in the treatment of bacterial problems and restoring the healthy microbial flora.

With 2QR as the main ingredient, several product-groups have been developed by BioClin, such as intimate care products under the Multi-Gyn brand, mother and baby care products under the Multi-Mam brand and oral products under the Multi-Oral brand. Product-lines are developed for BioClin’s own brands and also for third party labels that hold an exclusive license for specific market segments.
